Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has warned that his administration will not tolerate illegal traditional stools in any part of the state as well as dabble into the processes leading to the selection of traditional rulers.

Governor Okowa, who gave the warning while presenting Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Agbaovwe Afugheya Oyise 11, the Odion R'Ode of Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, noted that, according to the Laws of Delta State, it is statutory for the state government to present Staff of Office to a traditional ruler after due installation and enthronement. He added that any community that wants a king must follow due process.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, asserted that this administration holds traditional institutions in high esteem and will continue to strengthen the traditional institutions, accord traditional rulers due recognition, honour and respect as well as providing an enabling environment for traditional rulers to perform their roles.

While congratulating His Royal Majesty, Agbaovwe Afugbeya Oyise 11, on his appointment and recognition as the Odion R'Ode of Uwheru Kingdom, the governor urge His Royal Majesty to see his elevation as a call to contribute his quota to the development of Uwheru Kingdom, imploring him to contribute to the peace process of the Kingdom and to discharge his rcsponsibilitics in a selfless and transparent manner by being fair and just to the people.

The governor who use the occasion to advise traditional rulers in the state to use their good offices to promote peace and rapid socio-economic development in their various domains, call on the people across the state to embrace peace at all times saying, it is only an enduring peace that guarantees social and economic development. "To our traditional rulers, I appeal to you to support government's efforts to combat societal ills, specially kidnaping, armed robbery, banditry and other anti-social behaviours. As custodian of the tradition of your people, you do not in words or action allow your subjects to doubt your ability to uphold the sanctity of their customs. appeal to you to imbibe the democratic virtues of dialogue and consultation in all your dealings with people from everywhere". The governor stated.

While asserting that the government is committed to bringing prosperity and development to every corner of the state, the governor called on the people to key into the various policies and programmes of the state government, adding that every agencies of government is open to the people.

Earlier, the Chairman, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Hon. Kenneth Kesiena Ibru, in his address, thanked God for giving an all inclusive King to the community and pledged the support o [all to his tenure. Hon. Ibru, thanked the state governor for appointing Urhobo indigenes into key positions in his cabinet and assured him of the maximum cooperation of the Urhobo nation to his SMART agenda.
